Title: 19 reasons why being short is the best

I always seem to joke around about how short I am, so I though it would be funny to see the positive things about it. I chose this article because I wanted to find excuses on why being short is better than being tall, even though I wish I could grow just one more inch if anything. Looking at the memes I realized that some of them are a little bit off. For example, number 14 says, “even though reaching things may be an issue, tall people always seem to be friendly enough to help a stranger out.” I thought that this was really false because in my personal experiences, many people aren’t that generous enough to grab things for you. I have had moments at department stores where I left without my favorite shirt because no one wanted to help me get it down, which is actually pretty depressing and humorous to me. Number 17, “ you can be an expert couch surfer because you’ll always fit on a sofa”, relates to me the most I think because I never complain about not having a bed to sleep in at a friends house because a couch will ALWAYS be just as comfortable to me.  If I could change anything about these memes, it would definitely be some of the pictures. Especially number 18, “people tend to mistake you younger than you are (at least, in your earlier twenties this seems to happen a lot)”. The picture really has nothing to do with what is stated. I just think that the pictures are good but they could be better and that there are probably better ones to fit there instead. Overall this meme is really dead on about what the positives are about being short, but the way the numbers are portrayed could be better for the audience to get a clearer picture of the points being made.

The source that I found, The Sad Truth about Frozen Yogurt. Talks about what kinds of chemicals are in frozen yogurt and how we don’t really know what we are eating. After reading this article I think that it might work for my speech because it shows a problem that frozen yogurt faces. This is one of the only articles that I have found showing a problem with frozen yogurt itself instead of the frozen yogurt industry. This is an online source that I found, I learned just what exactly is in frozen yogurt that they don’t tell you about, for example all of the artificial flavoring that there is. This made me think about the direction I want to go with my research and my speech, I think that I am going to talk more about the problems that frozen has and what types of solutions that can be made.

BLOG POST #4

For my speech I will be persuading my audience with ethos by showing the audience that people who work at Orange leaf love their job and love helping people. I will research and interview customers to get their opinions of Orange leaf itself, so that I can share it with the class in order for them to see how it is. I will persuade with pathos by giving my opinion on orange leaf and sharing other customers stories about their experiences in Orange Leaf. Last I will persuade my audience with logos by giving the audience facts and reasons why they should go to orange leaf and check out all it has to offer. I think that this strategy will be affective because it will give my audience and idea of everything the Orange leaf has to offer and what exactly Orange leaf is all about. Also after I explain everything about Orange leaf my audience will definitely want to check it out themselves.

After watching my speech and critiquing all of it , I really liked how I showed confidence throughout my whole speech. I really couldn't tell how nervous I was by watching myself. I also liked how I did not talk too fast because in the past with speeches I would also talk way too fast so you could not really tell what I was talking about. The last thing that I really liked about my speech is that I made a lot of eye contact, I thought it was going to be really hard to look at everyone in the room but it actually was very easy because they all seemed to be listening really well. I did not do well on being prepared, you could tell by just watching my speech that I could have prepared a lot more. I also did not like how much i used hand gestures, I should have toned that down just a little bit and only used them when talking about the most important information in my speech. For the future with speeches I need to be a lot more prepared and I want it to show that I practiced. I also think that I need to start walking around the room more just to show that I have more confidence because that will overall look better. I also am going to watch stuttering because sometimes when I get nervous I tend to stutter and it ends up making me more nervous than I should.

The source I chose is an online source titled "Frozen Yogurt Industry Analysis 2013 – Cost & Trends". This is a great source in my opinion because it really gives me a chance to look at the background of the frozen yogurt industry. From this article I learned a lot about the successes that frozen yogurt has had. This popular treat has spread worldwide, there are always new flavors and even new brands coming out daily. I could use this source in my speech research because it is helpful in telling me how frozen yogurt came to be so popular. It also helps me see what types of trends the froyo industry has had so that I can see what types of things to look for in successful frozen yogurt stores. This makes me think about going  the business direction for my speech,also in the direction of history of frozen yogurt. This source is credible because it gives a lot of information regarding how froyo came to be, which I think will add a lot to my speech and really interest the class.

Prompt #1

   I opened the door after a long walk on the hottest day of the week thinking it was going to be just like any ordinary shop. To my surprise, the bright vibrant and inviting colors gave me such an energy boost that as soon as I walked in I felt relaxed and stress free. The earthy exotic colors helped put my mind at ease. Curious to see what kinds of things this place had to offer, I walked towards the flavors and was soon greeted by a very enthusiastic worker. They asked if there were any flavors I would like to sample. Feeling calm, I was then escorted to the frozen yogurt and was handed a little white sampler cup.

      I have never been to a place that had so many unique flavors; I did not even know where to start. They had everything from original, cookie dough, all the way to oatmeal cookie. I tested as many flavors as I could just to make sure I chose the right one. After a long process of elimination I chose the peanut butter flavor. I then grabbed a colorful small cup to put my froyo in. I was intimidated at first thinking I had to fill the whole entire cup. Pulling the nozzle to get the yogurt out made me feel like I was a little kid at a magical ice cream machine that seemed so unreal. Looking around dazed and confused I was then politely escorted to a colorful buffet of toppings. The smell inside of orange leaf brought me such joy and relaxation. The smell of fruit gave the store such an exotic feel, almost like you were on an island or beach. I took my time picking out what toppings would go best, I asked the worker for help and he told me his opinion, which ended up being the best option. I loved how friendly everyone in the store was. It made me feel welcome, making my first experience less stressful. Once I chose Oreos and chocolate chips, I walked over so I could pay for my yogurt. Feeling accomplished I set my cup onto the measurer waiting for the pounds to light up. Once my froyo was all paid for it was time to pick a seat.

    Looking around I felt like I was in the future because all of the chairs were so unique, and futuristic looking. This made every table and chair look so inviting. I sat down and felt like my body had sat on a cloud. Not only did the chairs look cool, but also they were so comfortable. While sitting down I got a real good chance to look around at everything in the store to see all there was to offer customers, especially students.

     The bright walls really make you feel relaxed and it seems like such a good environment to bring your homework when the library just doesn’t seem inviting that day. At first, walking into Orange Leaf overwhelmed me because of all the bright colors and complicated designs. But after spending some time in there I realized there was nothing overwhelming about it. Orange Leaf was a place built to make people feel comfortable and relaxed. It is really hard to find places that make you stress free during college, especially freshman year. But I found a spot that I can go to now to clear my head and enjoy any flavor of frozen yogurt that I want. Even though it is kind of a long walk to get here, it is worth it after a long day of studying. The inviting colors, soothing music, caring and enthusiastic people, and comfortable seating, and the overall good environment makes Orange Leaf THE place to be for college students.

     After my experience I concluded that Orange Leaf frozen yogurt is a popular place for college students for many reasons. The aroma is inviting and relaxing, such a perfect place to hangout with friends and get away from the stresses that college brings. I will now be going here frequently with my friends just to hangout and distress. It’s not just the frozen yogurt or the toppings here; it’s the place itself.

first choice: Bluetique

 I chose this because when I first came to kentucky during rush week a lot of topic of conversation had to do with what are some really good stores around campus. Bluetique came up a lot when I asked what were some of their favorite clothing stores. I think it would be good to research more about this place because I love fashion. I would enjoy learning about what it takes to run a place like this, like the sales they have to do and everything that goes into having a successful business.

Second choice: Orange Leaf

I would be interested in going and researching this frozen yogurt place on campus because froyo is something that has become so popular all around the world. It would be cool to see what types of things they do to make their frozen yogurt place the best. With places so popular like this, it comes with a lot of competition so I think it would be cool to see how they handle that.

After reading " Is Facebook making us lonely?" the quote above stuck with me the most. This quote really made me think about how much time we spend on websites, thinking it is making us closer to the people around us when really it is eliminating our ability to communicate with people face to face. It is too easy to just to Facebook message someone you are having conflicts with rather than going up to them and communicating face to face. This quote really makes me question how much time i spend at home on my computer talking to people versus how much time i spend hanging out with those people.

Right away this quote made me think a lot, it does not really make sense to me. I know that as a citizen of the United States we have certain powers, but we also have certain rules to live by. I don't understand what new vision can become relevant if citizens lose their traditional power. Even though this quote really confused me, it made me think about what would happen if we lost such a small power as citizens, like freedom of speech. These traditional powers are what make us citizens so even losing just one would completely throw off who we are as citizens.
